Iowa Freight Advisory Council Established

Ernie Perry

The Iowa DOT has recently led the creation of a Freight Advisory Council (FAC) to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas and to better understand the complexities associated with freight movements. The Iowa DOT will use this information to more effectively guide public investment in the transportation infrastructure.
The Iowa FAC seeks to gain a better understanding of how freight decisions are made at the private and public levels; to investigate and evaluate ways the Iowa DOT can increase the efficiency, profitability, reliability, and safety of goods movements in Iowa; and to help shape the Iowa DOT’s public policy.
The Iowa FAC will include private sector stakeholders in agriculture and agribusiness, manufacturing, energy, retail, logistics and distribution, and transportation. Metropolitan planning organizations, regional planning organizations, and local, state, and federal government agencies will also play a vital role in the Iowa FAC.
The first meeting of the Iowa FAC will be held on August 1.
For more information about the Iowa FAC, contact Craig O’Riley at the Iowa DOT.
