Registrants can earn 1.2\u00a0CEUs from the International Association of Continuing Education and Training\u00a0(IACET).<\/p>\n<h3>Course description<\/h3>\n<p>This course expands on freight topics covered in other\u00a0FHWA-developed freight planning courses to provide techniques and strategies\u00a0designed for those individuals directly involved in the implementation of\u00a0transportation planning, programming and allocation of resources. It provides\u00a0participants with the skills needed to identify, prioritize, develop and\u00a0implement freight supportive projects. This is an advanced level course and it\u00a0focuses heavily on resources and solutions, and how those solutions can be\u00a0applied to developing plans and programs for public and private sectors.<\/p>\n<h3>Course outcomes<\/h3>\n<p>Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Discuss how freight transportation needs differ for major industry sectors<\/li>\n<li>Describe the role of the freight transportation systems in supporting\u00a0economic competitiveness<\/li>\n<li>List the economic drivers that influence private sector freight transportation\u00a0decisions<\/li>\n<li>Discuss how private sector needs can inform public sector performance\u00a0measures<\/li>\n<li>Summarize methods for identifying and prioritizing freight projects<\/li>\n<li>Discuss the benefits of engaging private sector stakeholders in project\u00a0identification<\/li>\n<li>List potential funding mechanisms for freight projects<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Prerequisites<\/h3>\n<p>Participants must successfully complete either FHWA-NHI-139001\u00a0(prior to 31 March 2008) or FHWA-NHI-139006 (after 1 April 2008) Integrating\u00a0Freight in the Transportation Planning Process prior to attending 139003.\u00a0Participants MUST bring a copy of their certificate of completion to their\u00a0scheduled session of FHWA-NHI-139003 and provide it to the lead instructor.\u00a0This online course is $50 and takes approximately six hours, but can be done\u00a0at your own pace, and registrants can earn 0.6 CEUs.<\/p>\n<h3>Who should attend<\/h3>\n<p>Mid-level State DOT transportation and freight planners,\u00a0City and County Planners (who deal with freight planning issues), MPO staff,\u00a0mid- and high-level public sector transportation and freight planners,\u00a0consultants, private sector Freight Managers, economic development analysts,\u00a0and FHWA Employees.<\/p>\n<h3>Lodging<\/h3>\n<p>There are numerous hotels within a short distance of NOACA\u2019s\u00a0offices.
